Welcome

The Quiet Healing Power of Candle Making

In a world that rarely slows down, many of us are quietly carrying stress, anxiety, and experiences that shape us long after the moment has passed. For me, healing didn’t begin with a big life change — it began with a small ritual. Candle making became a way to slow down, reconnect with myself, and create moments of calm in the middle of everyday life. What started as a personal practice eventually grew into Oak & Sol, a candle brand rooted in intention, grounding, and the belief that our homes should feel like a place of peace.

Where My Story Began

For a long time, my anxiety didn’t have a name.

It wasn’t loud or obvious — it lived quietly in my body.

It began after experiencing 9/11, at a time when I was a young mother trying to make sense of the world while protecting a child of my own. That moment planted something deep inside me — something I didn’t yet know how to name or release.

Life kept moving forward. I later became a mother again, adding the weight and beauty of a second child while carrying unprocessed fear, responsibility, and survival mode into every season of my life. I learned how to function. How to show up. How to keep going.

For years, I carried anxiety quietly while continuing to move through motherhood, responsibilities, and the changes life inevitably brings. From the outside, everything looked normal. Inside, my body was still holding onto tension I hadn’t yet learned how to release.

What I didn’t expect was that something as simple as candle making would help me finally slow down, feel again, and begin letting go of what I had carried for so long.

Living Through 9/11 and Holding It In

Experiencing 9/11 changed my relationship with safety, time, and stillness in ways I didn’t fully understand back then. Life moved forward, but my nervous system stayed on high alert.

Like many people, I didn’t talk about it. I told myself to be grateful, to move on, to stay strong.

But trauma doesn’t disappear just because we survive it. It settles quietly into the body.

For me, it showed up as constant tension, anxiety without panic, and a feeling that I was never fully at ease — even during calm moments.

Becoming a Mother Again While Still Carrying Anxiety

Motherhood is beautiful, but it also asks so much of us.

Years later, I became a mother again while still carrying fear and unresolved emotions from the past. My focus shifted to caring for everyone else, leaving little space to process what I had been through.

Like many women, I learned how to keep moving forward. Life brought responsibilities, challenges, and moments that required strength even when I felt overwhelmed inside.

I showed up for my family and handled what needed to be handled. But eventually I began to realize that constantly pushing through life without slowing down had left little room for healing.

My body was still holding onto tension and anxiety I had never fully addressed.

That realization became the beginning of a new chapter — one where I started searching for ways to reconnect with calm and create space for myself again.

How Candle Making Became My Calm

Candle making entered my life without expectation. It started as a small idea — working with my hands, choosing scents, focusing on a single task.

But it quickly became a ritual.

The process forced me to slow down. Pouring wax, measuring fragrance, and watching the flame settle required presence and patience.

In those moments, my breathing softened. My thoughts quieted. I wasn’t rushing or reacting.

I was simply creating.

Candle making became a way to release stored tension and reconnect with myself. It gave me something steady during a time when everything else felt uncertain.

The Power of Scent and Ritual

There is something deeply calming about scent and ritual. Our sense of smell is closely connected to memory and emotion, which is why certain fragrances can instantly shift the way a space feels.

Soft florals can feel uplifting. Warm woods can feel grounding. Fresh, clean notes can create a sense of clarity and stillness.

Lighting a candle may seem like a small act, but a calming candle ritual can help create space for reflection and quiet. Many people use candles for relaxation, allowing scent and soft light to transform their homes into peaceful environments.

The moment you strike a match, watch the flame settle, and allow fragrance to slowly fill the room, your body begins to slow down. Your breathing softens. Your thoughts quiet.

For me, this became more than a routine — it became a moment of reconnection. A pause in the middle of busy days, motherhood, responsibilities, and the noise of life.

Scented candles are more than décor — they are a form of home fragrance for calm, helping create an atmosphere where the body and mind can finally slow down.

From Healing to Oak & Sol

What began as a personal ritual eventually became Oak & Sol.

This brand was created from lived experience — from anxiety, motherhood, and the journey toward healing. Every candle is rooted in intention, calm, and the belief that our homes should feel like safe spaces.

New York is the heartbeat of this brand.

It’s where I was raised. Where my story began. Where I return to when I need to remember who I am. Even when life pulled me away, New York always remained home — rooted in my identity, my resilience, and my sense of belonging.

Each candle is inspired by that spirit: the grit and softness, the noise and the quiet, the strength and the vulnerability.

These scents are not just fragrances — they are memories, moments, and pieces of home.

Oak & Sol candles are made to support those quiet moments — the ones where we pause, breathe, and come back to ourselves.

A Gentle Invitation

If you’ve lived through something that changed you — whether it was trauma, motherhood, heartbreak, or simply the weight of everyday life — you’re not alone.

Healing doesn’t always come from big gestures. Sometimes it comes from small, intentional rituals.

For me, it was candle making.

Now, I share that calm through Oak & Sol, hoping it brings peace into your space the way it once brought peace back into mine.
